Hannagan Campground is located in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest at approximately 9,100 feet elevation, providing cool summer temperatures and crisp mountain evenings.
Set within a beautiful mixed-conifer forest of spruce, Douglas-fir, aspen, and ponderosa pine, making it one of the highest and most scenic campgrounds in Arizona.
A great base camp for hiking, fishing, wildlife photography, birdwatching, scenic drives, and exploring the surrounding wilderness.
The nearby Blue River, East Fork Black River, and numerous mountain streams offer excellent opportunities for trout fishing.
Wildlife sightings are common and may include elk, mule deer, black bears, wild turkey, Mexican jays, and many other bird species. Proper food storage is essential in bear country.
Summer weather is pleasantly cool, with afternoon thunderstorms common during the July and August monsoon season. Nights can be chilly even in midsummer.
Just minutes away, Hannagan Meadow Lodge Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily, making it a convenient option when you'd rather enjoy a hot meal than cook at camp. The historic lodge, established in the 1920s, is also worth visiting for its rustic charm and beautiful mountain setting.
The campground sits directly off the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway (US 191), one of Arizona's premier scenic drives, known for its sweeping mountain vistas, winding roads, and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities.
Pets must always be restrained or on a leash.
